Clown Why masters, have your instruments been in Naples, that they speak i' the nose thus?	道化やあやあ、諸君、諸君の楽器はナポリへでも行っていたんか、そんなに鼻音を出して病気でももらってきたか。
First Musician How, sir, how!5	楽士1 何だって。
Clown Are these, I pray you, wind-instruments?	道化それって、息吹いてブーブー鳴らすやつか。
First Musician Ay, marry, are they, sir.	楽士1 はい、そうです。
Clown O, thereby hangs a tail.	道化なるほど、それで一物ぶら下がっているってわけか。
First Musician Whereby hangs a tale, sir?	楽士1 なんですって、何がぶら下がっているって。
Clown Marry. sir, by many a wind-instrument 10that I know. First Musician We have none such, sir.	楽士1 聞こえない音楽なんてありません。

CASSIO Dost thou hear, my honest friend?	キャシオあのう、もし、おじさん。
Clown No, I hear not your honest friend; I hear you.	道化おじさんはいないよ、それともおれのことか、なんだ。
CASSIO Prithee, keep up thy quillets. There's 25a poor piece of gold for thee: if the gentlewoman that attends the general's wife be stirring, tell her there's one Cassio entreats her a little favour of speech: wilt thou do this?	キャシオふざけるのはやめてくれ。わずかだが取っといてくれ。将軍の奥方付きの侍女が起きていれば、キャシオが話したいことがあると伝えてくれ。お願いできるか。

3.1.1-5

Masters 「諸君」
content your pains "content"= reward. / reward you for taking the trouble 労に報いる
Something that's brief; and bid 'Good morrow, general.' 　「何か短かなものを、それから後で『おはようございます司令官閣下』と言ってもらおう」Music がすんでから'Good morrow ...' といって中の人を起こすのが習慣であった。
Clown　Clown could= peasant, countryman, ignorant or rude fellow; fool or jester ( in a great house or in the theatre). Here the theatre clown plays a clown (a comic servant). Shakespeare gave names to most of his clowns and fools, but not in Othello and KL.
in Naples Naples に初めて梅毒が現れたので、これを一名 Neapolitan disease という。楽器が鼻にかかるような音を立てるのは Naples にでも行って病気にかかったためであるか、という。
How= How is that; What.

3.1.6-10

thereby hangs a tail "Thereby hangs a tale"(= about that there is something to tell)　は普通の成句であるが、それをもじって下等の駄洒落をやったもの、尻尾の側でブーブー鳴る楽器とはいうまでもあるまい。/ （漱石）それでこそ。成る程。道理で。（これは Clown のよく使う言い方で、As you like it にも Merry wives of Windsor にも類句がある。）tail は tale と通じる。/ 'thereby hangs a tale' there is an interesting story connected with this matter. これはいわくつきである。それには少しわけがある。/ "tail" a penis (or animal's tail? Cf. Dent, T48, 'Thereby hangs a tale'(= there's a story about that).
wind instrument 'Podex - or ars musica' (Partridge) A joke about flatulence / (Schmidt) 'tail'= 1) the part of an animal which terminates its body behind 尾　2) backside, arse　尻　 3) the yard　ペニス、一物 Oth. III, 1, 8 (thereby hangs a t.).

3.1.11-15

for love's sake 「後生だから」
to't again [go] to't again 「またやりなさい」

3.1.16-20

put up your pipes 　「笛をしまう」これから「仕事をやめる」という意味に用いられる。

3.1.21-25

I'll away I'll go away.
go 「さあ」人を促す言葉。
Dost thou hear, my honest friend? "Dost thou hear" は「もしもし」と人を呼びかけるときの言葉。これを Clown は "hear" の次に , （コンマ）のない意味にとって次のような返事をする。
keep up thy quillets　「揚げ足取りはやめてくれ」"quillet" 言い逃れ、ごまかし、逃げ口上。/ "keep up" refrain from "quillets" quibbles

3.1.26-30

be stirring 「起きている」
entreats her a little favour of speech 「少しばかりご面談をお願いしたいことがある」
stir= move.
I shall seem to notify unto her "seem"= (in illiterate language) be seen (to). "notify"= give information./ i.e. I shall have notified her.

3.1.31-35

In happy time 「ちょうどいい時に（お目にかかった）」

3.1.36-40

send in = send a message.
a mean = a means.
Out of the way 邪魔にならないように。
converse = conversation.

3.1.41-45

I never knew A Florentine more kind and honest Cassaio はフロレンス人、 Iago はヴェニス人であるが、自分の同国人でもこんな親切な正直な人はいない、という。

3.1.46-50

stoutly= resolutely, boldly.
great affinity 「有力者と近親の関係にある」"affinity"= family connection.
in wholesome wisdom 「常識的に考えて」"wholesome"= sensible, reasonable.
He might not but = he could not but.
refuse dismiss: decline to reappoint; i.e. he had (earlier or now) no choice except to refuse you.

3.1.51-55

suitor 「取りなす人」
his likings his likings [for you] i.e. his love of Cassio.
To take the safest occasion by the front 「好期を捕らえる（あなたを復職させるために）」"take occasion by the front" （あるいは 'take time by the forelock'）は有名なラテンの諺 "Opportunity has hair in front, behind she ia bald; if you seize her by the forelock, you may hold her, but once allowed to escape, not Jupiter can catch her again" よりきた熟語。
bring you in = establish you in your position.
or that it may be done この "that" は 'if that' の that を残した形ゆえその代わりに 'if' とあるも同じである。"think" にかかるのではない。
advantage= a good oppotunity.
discourse= talk,conversation.
bestow= place.
bound= obliged. 感謝します。
